But Summer Comes‘ worst offender is its vocal mixing. ![]() Sadly, the verses play fast and loose with tempo and arrangement, making for a haphazard structure that fails to capitalize on the song’s strengths. Its slam dunk winner comes during the second half of the chorus, where momentum finally climaxes and we get a taste of that pinwheeling summertime energy. The problem is that - although Summer Comes throws a lot at the listener - very little of it sticks. It’s very reminiscent of Collapsedone‘s work with groups like Twice and fromis_9. At its core, I love the buoyant, bounding energy of the track. Summer Comes (여름이 들려) is as frustrating as it is enjoyable, which has been a common theme in K-pop this year. ![]() ![]() Their take on a summer anthem should be a slam dunk, right? Enter: Oh My Girl - with a track that’s literally called “ Summer Comes.” It’s been a long time since we’ve heard from the group, and they have a bulletproof back catalog to build upon. I’m a sucker for a great summer K-pop track, and we haven’t had many of those this year.
